Randy was just two years old when he was found trapped near an illegal gold mining area. A baby orangutan living in conditions no animal should ever endure.
When a joint rescue team from BKSDA West Kalimantan and our partners YIARI reached him, they discovered he had been surviving on scraps of banana and bread. His small body was weak, and beneath his fur were signs of an old, healed fracture - evidence of serious trauma long before help arrived.
When a baby orangutan is found alone like this, it almost always means his mother is gone. Habitat destruction and illegal mining are pushing orangutans deeper into danger.
Randy is now safe at YIARI’s rehabilitation center, receiving medical care, proper nutrition, and round-the-clock support. But recovery - and the chance to one day return to the forest - will take years of specialised care.
