We rescued her earlier this year from a hotel near our center after we suspect she escaped from being someone’s pet, and by the time she got there she was already so domesticated she would walk right up to people for food.
Tourists probably thought they were being kind giving her scraps and taking photos, but every bit of that took away her fear of humans, the fear that should keep her safe in the wild.
Charlotte might never go back to the wild because some damage just can’t be undone, and caring for her costs so much.
Special food, medical care, safe enclosures, a team working every single day to help her remember what it means to be wild again — it all adds up so fast. And she’s not the only one. There are so many more like her who need us right now and we can’t do this without you!
