URGENT: Fires are already happening in Borneo, and there is a serious risk they could spread. DONATE VIA LINK IN CHANNEL BIO!
In 2015-2016 and 2018-2019, the rainforests surrounding our partner YIARI’s rescue center in Borneo suffered terrifying wildfires. Millions of hectares of forest burned, releasing a thick, toxic haze. Orangutans and countless other animals lost their lives, and YIARI’s rescue teams were forced into many lifesaving missions.
We hate to say this, but it is starting again.
Fires have already had to be tackled, and climate scientists are warning that a powerful El Niño could make the coming months extremely dangerous. On the ground in Borneo, YIARI’s teams are already seeing the signs: prolonged drought, drying peatlands, and forests becoming dangerously vulnerable. The worst of the dry season is still to come.
We cannot stop El Niño, and we cannot prevent every fire. But with your donation to our Fire Crisis Fund, YIARI can be as ready as possible. Early preparation, trained community firefighting teams, patrols, hotspot monitoring, and the right equipment can help detect fires quickly, contain them, and stop them from becoming catastrophic.
Acting now could mean the difference between small, controlled outbreaks and widespread devastation.
Please donate today to help prepare for the fires already threatening orangutans, their habitat, and even the rescue center itself.
