The Avo X.O. "Legato" Toro was reviewed using the Bespoke Unit Cigar Formula, a quantifiable review matrix. Furthermore, the cigars were stored in a Boveda acrylic humidor with 69% Boveda packs for a period of three weeks to ensure that they were properly acclimated and ready to be reviewed.

The Avo X.O. is manufactured at O.K. Cigars in the Dominican Republic, a facility located next to the Davidoff factory. The tobacco used is in the accordion bunching style with an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper and Dominican binder and filler. All of the tobacco used is said to be aged for at least 6 years.
02:03 Prelight
The Ecuadorian wrapper of this Avo X.O. is a sandy color, not too oily, and doesn't really shine much in the light. Nevertheless, the construction is very good with a firm spring and only a few soft spots. The veins are subtle which gives the cigar an elegant appearance.
In the prelight, the aromas of cinnamon, straw, and caramel are quite subtle. The draw at this point is perfect with rich aromas of terracotta on the foot. Additionally, there are notes of grape, Cuban tobacco, raisin, and anise. Overall, the bouquet is quite mild.
03:33 First Third
Into the first third, a nice stack of ash has developed. The flavor profile is very balanced and pleasant with a silky mouthfeel. While velvety, it's also no cream as you'd expect from a Connecticut wrapper.
Aromatic notes include charred bay leaf, nuttiness, grilled almonds, and dried clay. Overall, this remains a mild and subtle flavor profile that is quite pleasing.
04:54 Second Third
The burn line is a bit uneven, but this was possibly caused by CP putting down the cigar and allowing it to go out. The stack is still quite nice at this point.
The flavor profile has now evolved slightly. There is more body but it remains mild. A bitterness has developed, similar to that of unsweetened cacao nib. There's also a spice similar to that of a cinnamon biscuit. The charred bay leaf from the first third continues to dominate the flavor profile and has grown in intensity.
Overall, the aromatic presence is closer to a woody herbaceousness rather than the more familiar rosemary or thyme.
07:01 Final Third Tasting Notes
In the final third, the burn line has corrected itself very well. The flavor is now much more mineral in composition; rather than earthy, it is more akin to copper metal. A bit of medium or light espresso can also be detected as opposed to the cacao nib noted before. There are also notes of cashew nuts that are quite creamy but not too bold.
The Avo X.O. is very smooth with a velvety mouthfeel. It's not too heavy, even towards the final third. The complexity is not as nuanced as a Davidoff cigar though it is still quite pleasant. This is a very easy smoke and ideal for beginners to try.
The astringency and palate stimulation are perfectly balanced. It isn't too dry nor does it produce excess salivation. While there were some slight changes throughout the experience, it remains mostly consistent without venturing too far from the initial notes.

With this Avo X.O. Legato, the draw was perfect all the way through. The temperature remains cool, as well. There is good smoke output in the second and last thirds though it does not become too hot. The backbone is excellent as evidence by the great ash that is produced.
13:00 Occasion
This cigar is quite versatile - it could work after lunch on a hot day as it provides a refreshing smoke. Its premium brand and price point also make it a good fit for formal events or business occasions.
13:59 Pairings
Consider pairing this Avo cigar with nuts or trail mix, grilled almonds, cacao, or even espresso. Otherwise, consider digestif biscuits. If pairing with a meal, grilled veal or marinated pork chops would pair well.
With regards to beverages, the versatile X.O. Legato would pair with a pilsner or lager beer, or even a nonalcoholic choice such as root beer that is light and refreshing.
