In this video, I go in-depth with the Seiko 5 Sports SRPD81. Being part of the Street sub-collection within the Seiko 5 Sports model family, this watch has a very cool and very trendy bright blue-on-matte black color scheme These colors, both subdued and flashy at the same time, have made this one of my favorite Seiko 5 Sports models yet.
00:46 First Look, Case Size & Other Dimensions
The blue-on-black color scheme on this SRPD81K1 is obviously not very traditional though the finish looks great. Seiko refers to this as a hard coating so it's not totally clear if it's PVD or DLC or some other proprietary method, but you can see that it's actually quite attractive.
The case dimensions are as follows:
- 42.5mm case diameter
- Thickness is 13.4mm
- Lug-to-Lug is 46mm
- Strap size (between the lugs) is 22mm
It's worthwhile to note that the coating of this SRPD81 is matte black as opposed to other black-coated Seiko 5 Sports watches which possess a shiny black finish. There are also lugholes that make it easy to change to strap without damaging the case.
The Water Resistance on this SRPD81 is 100 meters or 10 bars. This is reduced from the predecessor, the SKX, as the case no longer possesses a screw-down crown.
03:42 NATO Strap
The NATO strap that comes with this Seiko 5 Sports SRPD81 is decent for the price. It's not as nice as some NATO straps you may purchase from online stores though it gets the job done. More importantly, it also possesses matching black-coated hardware that pairs perfectly with the case finish. It is also quite long so it should fit larger wrists just fine.
04:24 Matte Black Dial & Crystal
The crystal on this SRPD81 is Hardlex which is a scratch-resistant material produced exclusively by Seiko.
Like the case, the dial of this Seiko 5 Sports diver is matte black, the hands are lumed (blue LumiBrite) as are the blue hour indices.
05:29 Day-Date Complication
The Day-Date complication on this Seiko watch can be set by taking out the crown to the second position. Rotating clockwise will cycle the Day and counter-clockwise will cycle the Date. In the case of this SRPD81, the day is presented in two languages - they are Spanish & Japanese (Kanji). As with other Seiko 5 Sports dive watches, Saturday and Sunday are in blue and red font, respectively.
08:10 See-Through Caseback & Seiko 4R36 Movement
Through the new sapphire caseback, one can view the Seiko self-winding 4R36 movement. It features a 41-hour power reserve, an accuracy of +45/-35 seconds per day, and can be wound directly through the crown (Rotate clockwise). This is a feature that was not present in previous Seiko SKX watches and one that certainly elevates the usability of this SRPD81 when it comes to setting the time whenever you need to.
