The SRPD87 sits rather tall on the wrist and looks quite sporty thanks to the NATO strap. However, it does fit more compactly when compared to other Seiko 5 Sports divers that are sold on a full steel bracelet.
01:08 Case Dimensions
On "paper", the Seiko measures 42.5mm in diameter, 13.4mm thick, 46mm lug to lug, and 22mm between the lugs. I measured these on camera and they are basically correct.
Naturally, this SRPE77 has the traditional Seiko Diver case profile with crown & crown guards at 4 o'clock. You can see that the steel case has a brushed/satin finish on its top side and a high-polish finish throughout the case flanks and case back.

The stainless steel case of the SRPD87 diver is marked by a double-finish on the steel: the top side is brushed and the flanks, including the crown guards, are in high polish. The point where these two contrasting finishes meet is marked by a small bevel or edge that is a small detail but also quite attractive.
As is appropriate for any diver watch, the SRPD87 has a unidirectional bezel with a deep metallic blue insert. The insert has silver metallic markings that contrast well. The outside of the bezel is textured to allow for easy gripping and rotating.

The face of the SRPD87 is protected by a scratch-resistant & shatterproof Seiko Hardlex crystal.
The dial is a dynamic blue tone with a nice sunray finish that reflects light very nicely. Moreover, the tone of the dial changes depending on the amount of light and which angle you look at it from.
Present on the dial are applied, polished hour indices and hands with the same finish; both of these elements have green Seiko LumiBrite lume.

The dial also designates the SRPD87 as having a movement that is made in Japan, though this does not provide any mechanical advantage to those models where the movement is not manufactured in Japan.

This model, with the Mov't Japan designation, has a day disc with two languages that are English and Spanish. Saturday and Sunday are in blue and red-colored text, respectively.

Powering this SRPD87 is a Seiko 4R36 self-winding movement that can be seen through the crystal caseback. The movement is nicely finished with brushed bridges and a Seiko-branded winding mass. Also displayed on the caseback is Mov't Japan, similar to the dial.
The 4R36 movement boasts:
- 41 hours of power reserve
- A stop-seconds/hacking seconds function
- Winding through the crown

Through the new crystal caseback we can see the Seiko 4R36 automatic movement that powers this SRPE77. The material of the see-through caseback is not advertised, though it is imprinted with "Made in Japan" like the dial.
