Who likes bananas? Our #AustralianLungfish does! 🍌
For Endangered Species Day today we wanted to showcase this lesser-known endangered species in our care. In addition to bananas, this omnivore gets fed three times a week, and enjoys a varied diet that includes special treats like figs, and (of course) bananas!
Some cool facts about the Australian lungfish: They are only found in three river systems in Northeast Australia, and can live to be 100+ years old! Although they have gills like a fish, they can also breathe air using a single lung.
Australian lungfish are listed as "endangered" on the IUCN Red List, primarily due to their sensitivity to human-caused change in their habitat.
