Atelier Yumia The Alchemist of Memories and The Envisioned Land is available on Nintendo Switch 2, and this is a full technical review covering gameplay, visuals, performance and sound, with the frame rate tested properly using a custom frame rate tool.
On the gameplay side, Atelier Yumia delivers what is arguably the best combat the series has ever produced. The battle system uses eight attacks split across close and long range sets mapped to the face buttons, with stance switching on the d-pad and dodging on ZL, creating a far more real time and reactive experience than previous Atelier games. Combined with the series staple gather, craft and improve loop, it makes for a genuinely satisfying experience.
The performance is where the Switch 2 version struggles. Tested with a custom frame rate tool rather than eyeballed, Quality mode spends almost all of its time under 30fps, dropping as low as 25fps, while Performance mode sits between 31 and 35fps but suffers from inconsistent frame times that lead to noticeable stuttering. Neither mode is properly stable right now, though Koei Tecmo and GUST are aware of the issues and actively working on a fix, so the situation may well improve with a patch.
The soundtrack is a real highlight, balancing reflective, melancholic overworld themes against high energy battle tracks, though the sound effects feel a little flat and the voice acting is Japanese only in this version. Despite the performance rough edges, the brilliant combat and fantastic soundtrack make Atelier Yumia a genuine joy to play, earning it an 8.5 out of 10 with the potential to climb higher once the performance is patched.
