For episode 2 of Through the Mixing Glass I took a crack at the Army & Navy. It's a World War II era cocktail first published in David Embury's 1948 book, "The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks."

I first came across this drink at Dutch Kills bar in Long Island City, New York. It was on their happy hour menu and it knocked my socks off. This is one of my favorite drinks to make at home because it's so simple. Only three ingredients!

ARMY & NAVY
2oz gin
1oz lemon juice
3/4oz orgeat
1 dash Angostura aromatic bitters
- Shake over ice and strain into your favorite glass
- Garnish with an extra dash or spritz of Angostura bitters on top
