Firmus Piett was a longstanding member of the Imperial military. Eight years after the Clone Wars, he was seen as a junior officer working alongside Grand Moff Tarkin. Fourteen years later he had risen through the ranks to become a captain on the super star destroyer Executor, serving under Admiral Ozzel. Piett viewed his superior as incompetent…which was true. The admiral was killed by Darth Vader for bungling the approach to the Battle of Hoth, and Piett was promoted several ranks to become the admiral of the fleet. He oversaw the capture of the Millennium Falcon, which nearly resulted in the capture of Luke Skywalker. But the ship and Darth Vader’s prize escaped when R2-D2 fixed Imperial sabotage to the hyperdrive. But Vader had other thoughts on his mind and left Piett alive despite his failure. He remained in command of the Executor and the fleet throughout the Syndicate War started by Crimson Dawn, and he survived a droid scourge that spread through the Empire shortly after. He was on board the Executor at the Battle of Endor, blocking a Rebel retreat from the Emperor’s trap, but he and the ship were destroyed when A-Wing pilot Arvel Crynyd crashed his failing starfighter into the bridge of the super star destroyer. #starwars
