Where did the kyber crystals for the Death Stars come from? They came from worlds across the galaxy like Jedha. There were many planets that were rich in kyber crystals, but perhaps the most important was Ilum. It was a sacred planet to the Jedi, where younglings would undergo a ritual called the Gathering to collect a kyber crystal to construct their very first lightsaber. Its location was a secret, but was likely betrayed to the Empire by the fallen Jedi of the Inquisitorius. The Empire sent mining ships there immediately, and Ahsoka Tano witnessed its devastation only a year after the end of the Clone Wars. Four years later, Cal Kestis also traveled there to see the effects of the mining and also construction. Eventually Ilum was turned into the First Order superweapon known as Starkiller Base, which was in turn destroyed by the Resistance. #starwars #deathstar
