On April 13, 2024. An officer from the Woodruff Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was going 42 MPH in a 30 MPH zone, the driver also did not dim their brights, and was swerving. The officer approached the driver later identified as (Edmond) and explained why he was stopped. Edmond was asked to present his driver's license and spent a short time looking around the vehicle for it. The officer could see Edmonds wallet in his back pocket and asked him if it may be in there. Edmond began searching his wallet and flipped past his license multiple times. The officer could smell alcohol coming from his breath and asked Edmond if he had anything to drink which he denied. In the report, the officer stated the following
“Edmond opened his center console and was reaching inside. I feared Edmond was reaching for a weapon. I opened the driver side door and grabbed a hold of Edmond’s left arm. Edmond pulled his arm towards his body and away from me, resisting my movements. Edmond eventually got out of the vehicle and was told not to resist. Edmond was turned toward the vehicle where we attempted to handcuff him. Edmond continued to resist by pulling his hands away from officers. I had Edmonds left arm, another officer his right. As I handcuffed Edmond’s left arm, he pulled away toward his front waistband area resisting my movements to keep his arm back. Edmond was not searched at the time. Edmond continued to actively resist officer’s movements by pulling his arms towards his waistband area, all while being given commands not to resist.”
Officers were able to get Edmond into a squad vehicle and noticed that he had minor cuts on his head. One of the officers also said that his ankle was injured. In the vehicle officers located a ¾ full 1.75 liter bottle of open Bacardi liquor. Edmond was found guilty for Operating with Prohibited Alcohol Concentration (10th). He was sentenced to 7 years in prison and 5 years of probation. He was also charged with exceeding speed zones (11-15 MPH), keeping open intoxicants in mv-driver, operating while suspended, failure to dim headlamp, and operating left of center, however all of these charges were dismissed in court.
