Finding the perfect video professional for your Catholic group’s project is critical. After all, they not only control the quality, they control the messaging of your video because they make the judgment calls on what is cut and what stays.

Here are 5 red flags that signal who not to hire.

1. Work samples with messages you disagree with. The art reflects the artist, and the work they have created in the past says a lot about the ideas they want to share.

2. Only work samples of events, like weddings. Event videography and promotional videography are very different – event videographers may not know how to proactively craft your production to advance your mission.

3. No information about the people who work in the company. Some companies are shells hiring only freelancers, so you can’t count on a consistent quality of work.

4. No location is listed. Ideally, you want to hire locals for a lower budget, but some companies try to trick you into thinking they are local, then charge you big travel expenses.

5. No activity on social media - You need to know the company is in touch with the latest trends and best practices. The best way to see what they know is to watch what they’re doing for their own promotions.
