If your waves never last in the summer, check if you're making one of these four mistakes.
As a curl coach working with wavy clients, these are the patterns I see holding them back every single time.
Neglecting to clarify or using a weak shampoo — buildup accumulates fast and hold can't grip a dirty base
Prioritizing softness over hold — creamy products under your gel work against you; waves need grip
Overcomplicating your styling — smooth first, lift off the scalp, scrunch with lots of water
Air drying instead of diffusing — gentle heat locks your wave shape before humidity breaks it down
Bonus: some natural loosening is normal. The goal is maximizing hold on wash day, not perfection.
