The BMW iX3 is back, and it is nothing like the one it replaces. This is the first BMW Neue Klasse model: a clean-sheet electric platform with an 800-volt architecture, a brand-new operating system, and an EPA rating of up to 434 miles. The old iX3 was a gas X3 with the engine taken out. This one shares none of it. In the US it arrives as the 2027 iX3 50 xDrive at $61,500, with deliveries starting late September 2026.

In this first look we walk the whole car: the vertical tail lights and the illuminated kidneys, the flush handles, the 0.24 drag figure, then inside for the Panoramic Vision display projected across the base of the windshield, the six-sided 17.9-inch touchscreen running Operating System X, the recycled Econeer cloth seats and the flat rear floor. Then the numbers that matter: 400 kW peak charging, 10 to 80 percent in 21 minutes, and an estimated 185 miles of range added in ten.
One honest catch, and it is the reason a lot of BMW owners are unhappy: the reset reached the controls. You now aim the air vents through the touchscreen, and the rotary iDrive dial that anchored BMW cabins for over twenty years has gone completely. No update brings it back.
A note on this car: it was filmed on a European show floor, so the unit on screen wears European plates and trim. The mechanical package is the same one America gets, and every price and range figure below is the official US number.
SPECS AT A GLANCE (BMW USA figures, 2027 iX3 50 xDrive):
- Power: 463 hp (345 kW), 476 lb-ft, dual motor all-wheel drive
- Battery: roughly 112 kWh usable, 800-volt Gen6 architecture
