The 2026 Ford Explorer EV looks every inch a Ford, but there is a twist under the skin. This is the Europe-only electric Explorer, built in Cologne, Germany, on Volkswagen's MEB platform - the same electric foundation as the VW ID.4 and Skoda Enyaq. It is a completely different car from the larger petrol Ford Explorer sold in the United States, which shares nothing with this one but the name.

In this review we walk around the electric Explorer inside and out: the full-width light bar and floating-roof styling, the premium cabin with its quilted seats and clever sliding touchscreen that hides a storage locker, the surprisingly generous rear space for a car barely longer than a Focus, and the honest compromises - a 470-litre boot that trails the ID.4, no front trunk, and Ford's Sync Move software that some find fiddly. Then the numbers that matter: up to 374 miles of WLTP range, up to 250 kW (about 335 horsepower) in AWD form, and roughly 185 kW rapid charging.
