Let's review each episode of the TV show The Venture Bros, the greatest adult animated series ever made!

In 20 Years to Midnight, the Ventures find a strange box containing an old film made by Venture Senior, warning of an event about to happen that requires a teleportation device to be reassembled before the appointed time. Thus the family, well, venture across the world to recover the pieces. Accompanied by a strange alien visitor, but hey, he says it's cool if they ignore him. If the last episode was the most comedy-centric episode we've gotten, this is the most plot-centric so far. As in, it relies a lot more on a strict, linear path for the characters than telling jokes. In fact, it feels the most like one of the more kid-focused animated adventure shows it's clearly trying to emulate that were popular around this time. Just, you know, it's still not for kids. But it does have the excitement of one, as it is cool to be following these characters around the world as they try to hunt down the parts they need in a very strict time frame. And the best part is that the episode serves as a reunion for quite a few side characters we haven't seen since the first season. Jonas Junior, the not actually a ghost pirate captain, the seemingly deceased Colonel Gentlemen, and most of the Impossibles. I mean, nowadays, with the show being complete and available to stream all at once, it's not as much of a deal, but for fans who had to wait two years for the second season, seeing these characters again and what became of them was probably really nice to see. Except for Professor Impossible, of course, who I just HATE with the passion of a thousand suns! Yeah, I know I'm SUPPOSED to hate him, he's intentionally one of the show's largest assholes, with the elasticity to likely make that literal, but in his case, I don't even like looking at him. I don't want to see him humbled or beat down on, I want him DEAD! Literally everything he says or does, I want responded to with a full clip of bullets. Coated in sulfuric acid! That said, he is the subject of one of the series' best beatdowns, where they really put to the test just how elastic the good professor actually is. And Stephen Colbert returns to voice him, so that's always a good time. We even get to see the actual Johnny Quest, not called Johnny Quest due to legal reasons, who has aged in real time and is now a reclusive, paranoid junkie suffering from PTSD. Which, like Rusty's status as an ex-hero boy, is pretty understandable given what he went through as a kid. And even if the episode is more about the plot than the humor, there are still a good couple of laughs to be found. Like Hank and Dean reading through Colonel Gentlemen's journal about the toys he would have liked to have had as a kid. Or the crazy dream sequence Rusty has that's also a throwback to his Season 1 nightmares. Or the Grand Galactic Inquisitor who's just there in the background and loudly insists everyone ignore him. Who's still a better parent to the newborn Rocket Impossible than his actual parents. The episode does suffer from the same problem as the previous, with very fast-paced editing that rapidly switches between characters and locations, but in this case, the dialog is much slower and less focused on forcing the audience to laugh, so it's easier and more engaging to follow. The ending is another one I don't want to spoil, other than saying it makes absolutely no sense. But Doctor Venture also pointing that out and ranting about it does make for another good time. Yeah, I liked this one, and it was nice to see these returning faces all here and serving a purpose. And that Helper and the Impossible's version of HERBIE can get along.
