Let's review each episode of the TV show The Venture Bros, the greatest adult animated series ever made!

Blood of the Father, Heart of Steel starts off Season 4. Continuing right where Season 3 ended, the Monarch's car exploding proves even too much for Brock, as he finds himself in an experimental OSI lab that he must escape from. From there, he has to lie low and recover, while plotting his revenge on those who wronged him. This is another episode that's actually REALLY hard to talk about. Not just because it's crammed full of plot, but because you're technically NOT supposed to know what's going on for the first watchthrough. Half the episode is told backwards, while the other half has drastic time skips, making it intentionally difficult to piece the timeframes together. And I feel I'd be spoiling the experience trying to fill you in, so this might end up a shorter video. So once again, what CAN I talk about? Well, I like the beginning, where Brock wakes up in a secret OSI hospital, and continually overhears secret whisperings he thinks involve the doctors planning horrifying experiments on him. Only to learn no, they were discussing completely unrelated subjects, and they just put Brock in there because sick bay was full. Meanwhile, the first scene with the Ventures is a whole lot of what the hell, as the team are fighting Nazis, Dean screaming about how much he loves Hitler, and Helper now resembling that Spider Robot Venture was parading around in Season 2. And again, that's probably as much of that certain plot I want to give away, but once you figure out what's going on, as well as what the comic grading rating in the upper left corner means, it's one of the most hilarious plots of the show! I also like the journeys most of these characters go on, where we see an off-duty Gary going to Doctor Venture in the wake of his best friend's sudden death, hoping his cloning facility can remedy that fact, but ultimately getting ripped off. Meanwhile, Hank takes the departure of Brock very poorly, eventually giving himself a new hair and clothing style in tribute to his hero. Even Sergeant Hatred gets a couple good moments, having become the Ventures' bodyguard in the wake of Brock's resignation, and allegedly being cured of his attraction to the pubescent, while finding he has some large shoes to fill. Especially since his military training is completely alien to his new wards, but he still finds things to bond over. Again, hopefully not related to his former titillation. But the spotlight belongs, of course, to Brock, who goes on his own journey to get revenge on the hidden power that caused him to turn against his former employers. Which involves getting Helper surgically removed from his chest, and camping out with the Bionic Man couple for a few months to lie low. But still affording a couple truly sweet moments where he sneaks back to the Venture compound to check on the boys and let them know he's ok. All while getting his own scene titles that also pertain to the comic seen throughout the episode. Normally, I wouldn't reveal what Brock finds at the end of the road, but since it's a major part of the rest of the show, I guess I'll tell you that ultimately, Brock finds that Hunter Gathers all this time was an undercover agent, his new body part of his cover, and he welcomes Brock into the newly reformed Sphinx group, his base of operations for a good chunk of his future. Once again, a very strong season opener that continues to prove the show's strength in writing and emotion. As well as serving as possibly the series' most inventively structured plot. And speaking as a fellow comic collector, I see the vintage issue as the true victim in all of this.
