Hiya all! Join me for this quick follow-along morning shoulder routine that really opens the shoulders and lines you up for a day of better shoulder posture. I've struggled with rounded forward shoulders and impingement syndrome throughout the past because of the years I spent hunching over a computer, so this is familiar territory for me. The routine is designed specifically to fix this problem by using a 3-step process: Release, Activate, Strengthen. You release the tight muscles (internal rotators) and then activate the rotator cuff and strengthen the external rotators. I tried to keep the explanation at the beginning nice and short so we jump straight into the routine, but here's a breakdown of the timings in case you need it:
00:00 Intro
01:20 Channel Announcement: YouTube Shorts
01:55 Kneeling Lat Stretch
03:14 Kneeling Pec Major Stretch
05:09 Subscapularis Stretch
06:50 Deep to Standing Ape Reach (10 reps)
08:53 Prone Cobra
10:15 Assisted L-sit
11:40 Assisted L-sit Press Ups
12:50 Scapular Push Ups
13:50 Tips & Outro
We can breeze through this routine in about 12 minutes flat because we done ONE set of each. Hold stretches and isometrics for 1 minute. For any dynamic exercises, do 10 reps.
I recommend starting with a frequency of 3 or 4 times per week. Gradually build up to every morning, if you like. And you could even do this twice a day if you really want to because it's *restorative.* It doesn't break down your shoulders - it restores balance.
* NOTE: If you have really bad shoulders, add a set of band external rotations at the end. I didn't include those to keep equipment to a minimum, but it would be a wise addition for anyone whose shoulders need some extra TLC.
Hope you enjoy!
