This is "Zynaps" for the Commodore Amiga released back in 1988 by Hewson and developed by Micro Wish programming team, Howard Ball(code), Neil Metcalfe(code), Pete Lyon(graphics) and Giulio Zicchi(music).
Zynaps is a horizontal shooter game that was released for all 8-bit and 16-bit home computers.
The gameplay is very simple. Just shoot all enemy aliens and avoid crashing your ship on the background obstacles.
Your ship can be upgraded with power ups during gameplay.
When an enemy wave of aliens is destroyed, it leaves behind a fuel orb. Each fuel orb you collect changes the type of upgrade you can choose. To activate the upgrade of your choice you must keep the fire button pressed and collect another fuel orb. While you have the fire button pressed the bottom half of the screen flashes.
For its age the game has nice graphics with enough detail and smooth scrolling.
There are only sound effects during the gameplay but the intro music is good.
It's also a bit hard in places as it demands pixel perfect control in order to avoid hitting in the background.
It has 12 different levels and an asteroid level that is repeated many times.
I used many savestates to help me proceed through the game.
