A recent walk on the eastern fringe of the Black Mountains in South Wales. I'd never been up 'The Skirrid' and, as a National Trust member, it made sense to me to use their nearby car park. Ysgyryd Fawr is a hill that stands alone... To complete a circular walk of reasonable distance (deserving of a ninety-minute drive from home), you have to cross the A465 on two two occasions... I went with this, having decided to tie my route in with a visit to Bryn Arw (just east of Sugar Loaf). It was due to be between 11 and 12 miles.
