Find your OWN rhythm.
-
Runners get so worked up on things like cadence, where they end up losing sight of the more important things.
It is thrown around that 180 steps per minute is the optimal cadence when running.
Runners end up trying to stick to that particular number when running.
However, remember that cadence is a dynamic.
Your optimal cadence will be different at different speeds.
When you are running slower, you will run at a lower cadence.
When you running faster, you will run at a higher cadence.
It can also change based on things like limb length, terrain, shoes, and fatigue.
Now, let me clarify something...
Trying to increase one's cadence or step rate can be helpful to find your optimal.
HOWEVER...
Think about cadence like music.
Changing the tempo to be faster or slower is not necessarily better.
It is about timing.
So find the rhythm that works best for you.

This is for educational purposes and should not replace medical advice. If you are dealing with persistent running related injuries, I recommend seeing a healthcare professional.
