During WWII U-boats were destroying many merchant ships. German U-boats hunted by patrol aircraft crash dived once the patrol aircraft was spotted by lookouts. A Submarine could dive in around 30 seconds. The goal of Project was to cloak the patrol aircraft so it was invisible to U-boat lookout beyond distances of 1.5 miles. The system worked on full scale TBF Avenger and a B-24 bomber. It was not used in combat for various reasons. 20th bomber command was also concerned of Japanese planes ramming B-29 bombers and considered incorporating the Yehudi system on the bombers to make them invisible to ramming planes attacking from the head-on direction. The video will discuss review the Yehudi project, advantages and disadvantages of the system, proposed B-29 bomber application, and channel commentary on its combat effectiveness in mitigating B-29 ramming attacks, if it had been implemented.
