In Summer of 1943, the US Army Air forces released a report on the effectiveness and loss rates of the B-25 Mitchell and B-26 Marauder based on Combat experiences to date. The B-25 was clearly outperforming the B-26 in accident loss rate, loss rates during combat missions, and unit cost. These differences in some cases were by multiple factors. The USAAF considered reducing or canceling the B-26 program. The paper trail archive documentation will be reviewed.
