On Feb 3, 1944 General Kenny’s 5th air forces executed an elaborate trap to trick the Japanese into densely parking the fighters and bombers at 2 airfields on New Guinea. The plan worked, The Japanese parked their planes wingtip-to-wingtip which made them easy targets for B-25 bombers attacking the planes with Para-frag bombs and machine gun fire. 60 Japanese planes were destroyed for no 5th air force losses.
