In summer 1943 75mm Cannon equipped B-25s were used to attack 2 Japanese destroyers. One destroyer was struct by 5 rounds with no effect. Cannon equipped B-25s were used operationally for around 5 months and the cannons were removed from the bombers and replaced with 2 .50 caliber machine guns. The machine guns were more effective in suppressing a ships anti-aircraft fire than the cannons. The cannon equipped Bombers were considered a failure.
