The WWII Air War was a Radar War. B-29s were equipped with APQ-7 high fidelity Eagle radars in May, 1945. Their mission was to destroy Japan’s remaining oil facilities by nighttime precision bombing. The bombing results were considered spectacular. Most of the facilities were destroyed for the loss of 3 bombers. The combat effectiveness of the APQ-7 is 22 times the combat effectiveness of the B-29s equipped with the older APQ-13 radars when flying similar missions.
