In the Masters of the Air episode 8, The Tuskegee airmen are tasked with destroying the radar installation at Toulon France in support of Operation Dragoon. The narration was fact checked for accuracy and 8 discrepancies were found as listed:
1. Wrong Mustang Model P-51D model shown, should be the Razorback –B or -C model
2. Attacked with HVAR air-to-ground rockets, should have just strafed with machine guns
3. The P-51 B/C models were not equipped with HVAR Rocket launch rails
4. The fighters opened fire, with their machine guns, beyond the effective range of 400 yards.
5. The Gun sight should have been the N-3 not the K-14 Gyroscopic Gun sight.
6. The rocket should have not detonated, as the Rocket’s Mk-159’s fuse was not yet armed.
7. The rocket’s Mk 159 base fuse is for hardened targets like tanks, should have used the soft target Mk 149 instantaneous nose fuse.
8. The P-51 rolls in the wrong direction after it is struck by anti-aircraft fire
