US Intelligence evaluated the likelihood the Germans would send their bombers, V-1 bombs, V-2 Rockets, Submarines and surface fleet to attack military industrial targets along the mainland East coast. The report concluded the likelihood of a German attack on the Continental US is negligible. Attacks by aircraft are possible but not likely given the limited range and mid-mission refueling challenges. The damage of such attack would be small and the risks of the mission large. Rocket bomb attacks are not feasible, given the limited weapons range. Surface ship attacks are not likely as damage of such attack would be small and the risks of discovery during transit would be large. The payoff from a Submarine deck gun attack would be small and the risk large.
