This large bowl was turned from a LARGE solid block of Sycamore, chosen for its subtle grain, pale tones, and smooth finishing qualities. The blank was mounted on a Record Power Coronet Herald wood lathe and carefully shaped using Easy Wood Tools carbide woodturning tools, providing control and clean cuts while forming the generous curves and balanced proportions of the bowl.
Once the form was complete, the surface was refined using Yorkshire Grit abrasive paste to achieve a silky-smooth finish and highlight the natural beauty of the Sycamore. A finishing wax was then applied to protect the wood and enhance its soft luster, giving the bowl a warm, tactile feel.
The result is a bold yet elegant large bowl that showcases the natural character of Sycamore and the precision of modern woodturning techniques—designed to be both visually striking and pleasing to handle.
