How do you make an urn not look like an urn?
The urn doesn’t depend on its size to impress upon us the memory of its new resident. So from the largest to the tiniest, they all do the same thing!
This one presented me with a couple of stumpers!
I had tried this out to see if it was going to work... and it was a much softer wood... and I didn’t really give the glue enough time to set up... and when it got down fairly close... it all came apart! Good thing it was empty! So of course I decided that this was what I wanted to do!
Then this first piece of wood... more or less the right size... more or less the right shape... more or less the right colour....it was just more or less not the same as the cap! I couldn’t for the life of me figure out why it wasn’t fitting ... fortunately I looked at the bandsaw and there sat the piece I needed... right where I left it!
Now I sort of casually marked the center on the top before I drilled it... I would have been much better advised to have marked it much more carefully... as that also relates to where the grain line up is going to be! I got this so that it was within a 1/16” but a line that doesn’t match ... still doesn’t match!
I would imagine that there are a million and 2 ways of attaching the chain... on this one, to put a chain through the hole would require taking the end off the chain as there isn’t enough head there to put a hole big enough! I’m sure they make jump rings in the 3/8” variety but I didn’t have any on hand so I just used some copper wire that seemed to be heavy enough to do the job. And then I put a large jump ring on that so everything would hang properly when attached to a chain!
It doesn’t look like I will be back to a weekly schedule quite yet... I still love getting the videos out... they just are taking me a wee bit longer these days! I will get just as many out as I can... just, I’m afraid, not on a very solid time table! Thank you for your patience!
