A branch found along a path can be a good walking stick ... or it might have more to it than that!
This one was too short for walking with... unless you are a dog... but there was something about the way the end swooped over the way it did that made me stop and look at it a second time! And it seems that if I look at it twice... I usually end up bringing it home! At first I was unsure of the species but once I started turning it I began to recognize the attributes of red alder, after it has started to spalt.
As I mention in the video the center of it was pretty soft, but the dowel should fix any future problems there! At least the wire looks cool... ‘cause it doesn’t do anything for strength! And it didn’t do much for my sense of how things should go either! But it ended up good so that is all that counts!
Flowers are always fun to do... and this dipping in shellac really makes perfect final touch! But when I originally did this with the regular wood inside... at first I thought of it as a flame vase... but then the flower didn’t sit quite right. I noticed then that the vase could have a leaf pattern in it too and decided to try the stain to try and accentuate it more. I think it worked!
Cedric has words over there that should not be missed... he can be an interesting guy to have around!
The other link the I have put there is to the Sheringham Point Lighthouse Preservation Society... the lighthouse property has been left untended for a long time... the society was formed in 2003... and the broom has run amuck! A group of volunteers came out and put their backs into it and in just a couple of hours were able to clear the road way down! The clearing at the bottom had been done the week before. I think these people deserve a huge amount of appreciation from those of us who merely go and enjoy the sights! Without you... we wouldn’t be able to see anything anyway! Thank you!
I appreciate your patience with me... and I will do everything I can to get back to a more regular schedule!
