Welcome to the Witchual Workout with Laura Tempest Zakroff - a ritually-inspired movement experience designed to get us moving a bit more on a daily basis. 5 days a week, we'll have a different magical focus and build up our stamina and body exploration.
It's Wednesday, so we're looking to the divine again for our theme. I've chosen the Hindu goddess Kali Ma for today's inspiration - she is someone that I have been working with for decades and I woke up with her on my mind. She is known as the Destroyer Mother - in that she can aid in helping us break down the unhealthy and unhelpful structures in our lives (parts of ourselves, our culture, etc) so that we can clear it away and begin anew. To make room for new growth and find our strength in the process. Created to defeat a seemingly impossible, unkillable monster - she succeeded. Kali Ma reminds us that monsters - no matter how scary or strong they may be - can be defeated.
Follow along and adjust as needed, listening to your body's needs.
And as with any deity or spirit I mention here, if you're unfamiliar with them - please do take the time to look into them more deeply. Kali Ma is very complex with many similar myths that don't always line up as these stories come from different villages and regions of India. There are many living culture resources and excellent books to check out if you wish to further your study.
