In 2011, country music superstar Faith Hill returned for her fifth consecutive season as the voice of NBC’s Sunday Night Football intro theme. She performed the iconic opening theme song, "Waiting All Day for Sunday Night," which was a football-themed re-working of Joan Jett's 1988 classic rock hit, "I Hate Myself for Loving You".

The 2011 intro video officially premiered on September 11, 2011, welcoming fans to the Week 1 primetime matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Jets. Because the opening game fell on the 10th anniversary of 9/11, the 2011 broadcast video featured a highly patriotic visual sequence. It included shots of Faith Hill singing in front of a circle of American flags next to the Washington Monument, intercut with highlights of the NFL's elite players. The sequence famously began with Hill stepping off a motorcycle clad in head-to-toe black leather before transitioning into a white dress for the patriotic monuments sequence.
