I think it's save to say that it is always a good day when Isaev publishes another custom map, they always feature really amazing visuals, super nice design and most importantly a lot of creative ideas and usually very difficult puzzles. And today his already big rebuild of the Hogwarts castle gets another spell challenge added to the overworld: The Spongify Challenge! So of course the entire thing uses the Spongify mechanic a lot and is also Lockheart themed in some parts but most importantly it is meant to be a DADA challenge which is very important to keep in mind to understand the main idea behind this level!
The challenge takes place in the area that will host the Carpe Retractum challenge next! So you will recognize a lot of the areas and a lot of the segments we will go through but since we obviously learn Carpe from Lupin and it's still Lockheart's turn as a teacher the mechanics and ways to traverse certain rooms are different than you remember them from Harry Potter 3 (PC). But it's just such a smart thought that obviously the spell challenges and spells we learn change every day but obviously the general areas of the castle wouldn't which means they always host different spell challenges in overall very similar rooms! I haven't seen anyone come up with cool thinking like that before I have to say and I really loved it because of that!
Visually it is also really nicely made as we are used to with Isaev challenges and most of the secrets were pretty fair and fun to hunt for so we don't have to talk about those things too much. The only thing I wasn't a super big fan of in this map is unfortunately the gameplay though. The basic rooms were fine and fun but this level features a variety of puzzles and to be completely honest some of them didn't really make the most sense, were impossible to do on a first blind playthrough or were just trial and error. And struggling at a trial and error part for like 20 minutes just really wasn't all that fun so that's the only reason I would give this map a stron 7.5/10 rating instead of bumping it higher like the rest of the design deserves. I feel like puzzles need to be a bit more well indicated or things just get waaaaay too frustrating quickly but I hope you are still going to enjoy my discovery of this map here in the end!
