A film response to the query brought to the 2009 Annual Conference by the Beacon Heights Church of the Brethren and the Northern Indiana District regarding same sex conventional relationships. As related to the matters of homosexuality, the Annual conference identified the item as matters of such controversial nature that they referred it to a Special Response Process.
This process asks that congregations and districts devote attention to studying the query and statement before delegates to Standing Committee and Annual Conference make responses to it.
For over 40 years, Portland Peace Church has been involved in the study of these issues and has attempted to lead by the examples of Jesus of Nazareth in dealing with the concerns and issues of homosexuality and same sex conventional relationships.
In this program, current and past members of Peace Church share their own individual stories and feelings of how they dealt with the issues of homosexuality. As a result of their leadership, the congregation became a "welcoming congregation" to all, regardless of their "age, gender, race, ability, ethnicity, or sexual orientation."
It's the story of courageous families of gay children and gay people who are deeply Christian and want to be accepted in the church as they always have been and accepted as they truly are. It's the story of human beings who love God an want to be part of their church community to love and serve the Lord.
Brent Carlson and Beth Merrill host the program with music, "Love Makes A Family," performed by Michael Stern.
