Brethren Voices celebrates 13 years of monthly community television programs, sharing what Brethren do as a matter of faith. Programs have originated from 18 different states from Arctic Village Alaska, 100 miles north of the Arctic Circle to New Orleans. "Brethren Voices" has also been filmed in 7 countries featuring the works of Brethren from Nigeria to Japan.
One of our first programs came from Lucedale, Mississippi, featuring Brethren Disaster Ministries and seven Brethren who traveled to assist rebuilding following Hurricane Katrina. Programs initially were taped in the sanctuary of Portlands Peace Church of the Brethren and Rachael Waas Shull acted as the host of the program. Q-cards were used to help Rachael with the script of the programs. A beautiful fern was used as the back drop.
Today, the all volunteer production of "Brethren Voices" is produced in a wonderful studio of Metro East Community Media, near Portland, Oregon. During the past 13 years, approximately a dozen folks have acted as host of the program, with Brent Carlson being the host for the past 10 years. Ed Groff has produced and edited the program since its beginnings in July 2005.
With this program we feature: a New Community Project Learning Tour to Arctic Village, Alaska; our first on location filmings with Brent Carlson reporting from Lucedale, Mississippi, following Hurricane Katrina; segments with David Radcliff, Jay Wittmeyer, Carol Mason, Rachael Waas Shull, Nancy Ferguson, Chuck Boyer, Carol Lindquist and the music of Steve Kinzie and the Mutual Kumquat.
