When it comes to diamonds and clarity grading, what’s the difference between vs1 versus vs2 diamonds? Technically speaking, the differences between these 2 ratings are very small and it boils to how easily you can see inclusions under 10x magnification.
When a lab like GIA or AGS rates a diamond as a VS1 or a VS2 clarity, they will typically be eyeclean and only have minor inclusions that can’t be seen with the naked eyes. But here’s the thing, many people read too much into this and often ask me about the differences between a VS1 vs VS2 diamond and whether a VS clarity is good enough.
In this video, we compare a VS1 and VS2 diamond ring beside each other. This is how it actually looks like in real life under office lighting which is very similar to the conditions that diamonds are graded with.
In real life, let me tell you that there are no noticeable differences you can see with the naked eyes between a VS1 clarity and VS2 clarity. The key lies in cut quality too when it comes to seeing inclusions. With an ideal cut rating for both these diamonds, the brilliance and sparkle helps to mask inclusions and it makes it even harder to see differences in clarity!
