European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen praised the global work of the Emergency Response Coordination Centre, stressing that Europe’s crisis response goes far beyond wildfires and far beyond the European Union.

She said the ERCC helped prepare repatriation flights and mobilise medical evacuation services during a Hanta virus outbreak on a ship.

Von der Leyen also highlighted Europe’s response to the earthquake in Venezuela, where the ERCC coordinated the deployment of 750 responders and experts from 18 countries.

When Colombia was struck by an earthquake, Europe provided tents, water filters, essential supplies and vital expertise on the ground.

And after the devastating floods in Nepal, the EU quickly supported the response with Copernicus satellite mapping, giving responders crucial images and information.

Her message was clear: Europe’s solidarity does not stop at its borders.

From health emergencies to earthquakes, floods and evacuations, the ERCC turns crisis into coordinated action — helping people when they need it most.
