Who is Johannes Vermeer? Like Rembrandt, he was one of the 17th century Dutch masters, but he didn't become famous until 200 years after his death. Furthermore, there is a controversy surrounding him that still exists today. How popular is Vermeer? When the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam put on a Vermeer Exhibition with the most Vermeer paintings (28 of his 36 surviving paintings) ever shown in one place, it became the most popular exhibition in the 140-year history of the Rijksmuseum! Over 650,000 people from 113 countries attended the sold-out 4 1/2 month exhibition. In this video, Part 2 of two parts, we examine twelve more of Vermeer's masterpieces. I will explain in detail Vermeer's painting techniques which made him one of the greatest artists ever, as well as the symbolism behind his paintings.
