In the past, I have talked extensively about how Super Mario World for the 16-bit Super Nintendo is my absolute favorite video game of all time. So, what better way to put some brand new upscaling hardware through its paces than by booting up an absolute classic? Today, we are running Super Mario World through the newly updated PixelFX Morph 4K scaler, and I have to say, the results are looking incredibly sharp.

For this specific setup, we are not just using a stock console. To get the absolute cleanest possible signal into the Morph 4K, I am using my personal Super Famicom Jr. that has been meticulously RGB modded using Voultar's legendary RGB Mod kit. To carry that pristine analog signal over to the scaler, we are connected using high-quality Insurrection Industries SCART cables. If you are chasing pixel-perfect 16-bit video quality, combining Voultar's incredibly clean RGB bypass with properly shielded Insurrection SCART cables into a 4K upscaler like the Morph is pretty much the holy grail of retro gaming setups. So let's dive into Using a PixelFX Morph4K To Play Super Mario World In 4K On Real Hardware!

Fixing Our Previous Morph 4K Issues
If you saw our very first test video featuring the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), you might remember we ran into a few technical hiccups. First and foremost, I didn't realize it at the time, but I actually had an issue where the Morph 4K didn't correctly connect to my studio Wi-Fi. Because of that network error, I couldn't access a few essential features during that initial recording. "You suck, you dirty rat... get back here!" (Talking and gaming at the same time is clearly not always the best thing, especially when you're trying to nail those tricky jumps with the cape in Super Mario World—which, by the way, is one of my favorite levels in this entire game just because you get to jump and fly!).

Since that first test, I've been able to connect the scaler to the network, download the latest firmware update, and correctly install the optimal default profiles for the Super Nintendo. Overall, this is a vastly superior visual presentation compared to what that first NES video was. (Sorry about that earlier video, folks!). We have also switched over to a completely different capture computer, so thankfully, we do not have the frustrating capture lag and delay that we experienced the first time around.

Performance & Resolution Quirks
The gameplay experience right now is fantastic. It is playing incredibly well, and I am not feeling any real input lag, delay, or latency whatsoever. The response time is tight, which is crucial for a platformer like Super Mario World. I also really love what I was able to do with the Morph 4K's included remote control—being able to sit back and actively dial in the settings, scanlines, and scaling options from the couch without having to get up and press buttons on the unit itself is a massive quality-of-life improvement.

One important thing of note regarding video quality: YouTube is notoriously weird about how it lets you select your playback resolution, especially on Shorts. So, depending on what device you are watching this on, YouTube might be compressing the video and you may have an issue seeing the true 4K resolution. Because of that compression, I highly recommend watching this over on Rumble Shorts, as they actually process and display the full 4K right out of the box without the heavy artifacting.

I personally think this looks and sounds absolutely phenomenal. This is a really good working solution for retro gaming in the modern era, and I'm really digging it. Now, the only weird bottleneck in my current setup is that the 4K signal the Morph outputs isn't fully supported by the specific displays I have in the room. Neither my studio TV behind me (which is an older, non-HDR TV) nor my standard 1080p gaming monitor fully recognizes the 4K output. Because of that display limitation, what I am seeing in the room actually isn't quite as stunning as what you are hopefully seeing directly captured from the source!

What Do You Think?
Let me know what you think of this upscaling setup down below in the comments! Is the PixelFX Morph 4K something you would try for your own retro game room? How do you think the Voultar RGB mod and Insurrection Industries SCART cables look running through it? And lastly... how do you think I look? We're filming this video with our brand new Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, and I think it all looks pretty dang good!
