ILoveLanguages! | URALIC: FINNISH & MEADOW MARI @ilovelanguages0124 | Uploaded August 2024 | Updated October 2024, 9 hours ago.
Welcome to my channel! This is Andy from I love languages. Let's learn different languages/dialects together.
Finnish is a Finnic language of the Uralic family, spoken by most people in Finland and ethnic Finns abroad. It is one of Finland's two official languages, along with Swedish. In Sweden, Finnish and Meänkieli (mutually intelligible with Finnish) are official minority languages. The Kven language, also mutually intelligible with Finnish, is spoken by a Finnish-descended minority in Norway's Troms and Finnmark counties.
The Mari language, spoken by approximately 400,000 people, belongs to the Uralic language family and is official in the Mari Republic alongside Russian. It has three standard forms: Hill/Western Mari, Northwestern Mari, and Meadow/Eastern Mari). Both Hill Mari and Meadow Mari use modified versions of the Cyrillic script.
This video is created for educational, language awareness, and language preservation purposes. It aims to provide valuable insights and knowledge to viewers, enhancing their understanding and appreciation of different languages and their unique characteristics. By raising awareness about linguistic diversity, the video seeks to foster a greater respect and recognition for various languages, particularly those that are endangered or underrepresented. Additionally, it contributes to the preservation of languages by documenting and sharing linguistic knowledge, thus ensuring that these languages and their cultural heritage are not lost to future generations.
