Unifi Traffic Rules and Routes is Ubiquiti's attempt to give us UniFi users more control over our networks. Regardless of the quality of this new feature, the attempt to give us more control is always a good thing.
as for the actual it self, Unifi Traffic Rules and Routes is not fully baked yet but from the limited functionality we are given, it seems like this feature is a pretty important piece of the security puzzle. It gives us the option to easily create and define behaviors that would have been a challenge to tackle with just firewall rules.
Unifi Traffic Rules & Routes will give us a tool that resembles parental controls. A way to define what is allowed to prohibited to do on certain devices in certain times of the day.
For businesses, this feature will allow you to define, for example, that during business hours, all social media sites will be capped at a certain speed and than uncapped after business hours.
As you can see, there is definitely a lot you can do with this new Unifi Traffic Rules & Routes feature and this is definitely something a lot of users have been asking for and they have been doing so for a long time.
This new Unifi Traffic Rules & Routes feature is not really an equivalent to parental controls but it can be, its not really traffic shaping but it can be as well. the amount of granularity is exactly as it should and i hope this feature will continue to evolve over the future releases.
