In this video i will share on site work in a small business that has suffered the worst thing that can happen. This small business lost all its data, luckily for them, Synology Stepped In and provide a DS923+ along with 4X4TB hard drives. By utilizing a Synology NAS with all its capabilities and backup solutions, i am sure that this will never happen again and even if it will, they will have a way to restore their data.

Here is what happened:
A small business with a small budget and a small IT footprint, for years, placed on all their data, everything they relied on, even their active directory, everything on a single physical server. it worked just fine for years but one day, the server died taking everything with it down to the grave. This Small Business Lost All Its Data. literally, everything is just gone. Obviously they did not have a backup of everything not to mention a Synology NAS that would help them to perform a restore.

Here is what is going to change:
ideally, This Small Business that has Lost All Its Data will never again have an all eggs in one basket scenario as much possible. no single points of faliure, no islands of data that isnt backed up. nothing. With a Synology NAS we will make sure of that.
The plan is to have virtualization with Proxmox based on at least 2 physical nodes and have virtual machines be backed up directly to the Synology NAS via NFS.
The Synology NAS itself will be backed up to another Offsite location or to cloud storage. without that, the Synology NAS itself becomes a single point of failure.
As for individual computers, some of those are holding critical data and they are currently still not backed up. we will utilize Synology Active Backup for Business and make sure they will be backed up properly.

As for the Synology NAS itself, we will use Synology's Hyper Backup in order to create a backup job for the NAS content that will go to either a NAS in an offsite location or to Synology C2 cloud storage. There's no way we can leave the NAS not backed up since this will effectively make the NAS a single point of failure . As i said before, This Small Business Lost All Its Data and we will make sure this doesn't happen again.

This small business is about to go a major IT transformation but the most important thing ot takeaway from this video should be: If you are placing all your eggs in one basket or all your data in one place, this video is an opportunity for you to learn from someone else's mistakes. stop doing it and make sure you have backups!

Just to clarify, this is NOT a sponsored video but i do want to thank Synology for providing the hardware and hard drives. i really do appreciate it.
