Home Assistant Skyconnect is a usb dongle you can connect your Home Assistant device and instantly make it a ZigBee hub or coordinator and matter ready.
In fact, The Home Assistant SkyConnect is the easiest way to add ZigBee support to your Home Assistant instance and make it Matter-ready. All you need to do is just connect the dongle to your Home Assistant device and install the ZHA integration.
Out of the box the Home Assistant SkyConnect will support only ZigBee. Nabu Casa are working on a firmware update that makes it possible to run both ZigBee and Thread at the same time. Thread is the mesh networking protocol that powers Matter, the new standard for smart home devices.
Once available, Home Assistant SkyConnect will run part of the software that normally runs inside ZigBee and Thread chips inside Home Assistant add-ons. These add-ons will be installed and updated automatically without requiring user interaction.
The Home Assistant SkyConnect adds to your Home Assistant device the same features or radios that are inside the Home Assistant Yellow device. in fact, if you have a Home Assistant Blue device and you add the Home Assistant SkyConnect, you practically turned it into a Home Assistant Yellow.
