Children grow up in a multilingual society: find out how to ensure programmes and other forms of content reflect linguistic diversity, without leaving anybody behind.
Multilingual children make up about 25-30% of all children in the country, and all children are growing up in a multilingual society. This session will explore research-based, practical ideas on how different media can ensure we can cater for multilingual audiences, supporting identity development, belonging, and cultural cohesion. Rather than focusing on individual languages, we will consider how we can make multilingualism “mission critical” to the stories we tell, by embedding multiple languages, and normalising children’s multilingual lives.
