In this video I tell why using counterfeit components can be very dangerous. They might be cheap, they might be readily available, but they can wreck your business.
They appear especially when supply of the authorised components directly from manufacturers becomes restricted due to demand, etc. Counterfeiters step in an try to copy the originals, but they never have all the design information.
These counterfeit parts can appear to be very similar to the authentic version, but they will almost certainly not work to the full specification, or have other major issues which can cause big problems, especially in production. I've actually heard about instances of this, so it's not just me being alarmist.
Also some customers may black-list you if they find out you're using counterfeit components. Companies buying mission critical equipment will not want counterfeit components in in any equipment because would compromise performance and reliability, apart from the ethical issues.
By obtaining components via authorised distributors, the supply chain can be guarateeed and only the original manufacturer parts obtained.
So it is possible to avoid using them. It may cost a little more to avoid them in the first instance, but in the long term it's absolutely essential.
