Since you all loved the last orangutan release video we uploaded last week, we thought we'd spoil you with more!
Let us take you back to June 2017, when two orangutans, Amin and Shila, were given their second chance at freedom.
After years of rehabilitation at our partners YIARI’s centre in Ketapang, where they learned essential forest survival skills, the Ministry of Forestry and YIARI successfully released them into the wild.
Their journey to freedom wasn’t easy - 17 hours by car, an hour by boat, and four more on foot. But every step was worth it. After a night in a resting cage to reduce stress, the doors finally opened - and they returned to the forest where they belong.
This release was only possible thanks to collaboration between local authorities, our partners YIARI, and the support of people like you.
