We compare a colorless D, near colorless I and faint yellow K diamond ring with white gold/platinum settings. Is an I color good enough? Is a K too yellow? Do you really need to fork out the extra cash for a D diamond? The answers to these questions will best be derived from your own experience and by seeing them in person. In the links above, I had also listed a GIA diamond color scale chart to depict how each diamond looks like under lab conditions and when they are graded face down. Looking at diamond engagement rings in the face up position would result in them facing up whiter due to the effect of light return. When light hits the facets of the diamond, the light rays get reflected and refracted within the stone. Most of it gets redirected in the form of fire and brilliance back to the observers eyes. This is why color is easier to pick up when looking at the side profile or in a face down manner. So, the million dollar question is, can you see yellow or white tints in these diamonds easily? If so, would that deter you from choosing a particular color rating in the GIA scale? Would you think one color is better over the other and that the differences are worth thousands of dollars?
