One of the biggest misconceptions that consumers have about diamond rings is that a high clarity grade is required for a diamond to look gorgeous and be full of life.
Over the years, I’ve heard countless of jewelers and sales people mislead shoppers with marketing claims that a better clarity diamond has more brilliance and sparkle. And the part that really annoys me is that consumers get taken in because they don’t do their own research and blindly believe the rubbish that is fed to them.
In this video, we compare a top tier VVS1 diamond against a low clarity SI1 diamond ring to show you what they look like in real life. The solitaire engagement rings are made using the same design and worn on my finger in various lighting conditions.
On the GIA clarity scale, the VVS1 diamond represents the 2nd best rating after the IF/FL grade. Within the VVS1 grade, the inclusions are extremely minute and are never eye visible without a loupe.
The SI1 clarity grade is a much lower tier rating and the diamonds usually contain inclusions that are easily seen with a loupe. However, when you select an SI1 diamond with tangible data and smartly, you would be able to find diamonds where the inclusions will not be seen with an unaided eye.
This means that you would save A LOT of money while receiving a diamond that looks just as good as a VVS1 diamond. Depending on the carat size and color ratings, the price difference between a VVS1 and SI1 diamond can be as high as 50% even though they may visually look identical.
As seen in the video, the SI1 diamond sparkles just as much as the VVS1 diamond. Also, there isn’t the faintest sign of any inclusions that your eyes would be able to pick up in both diamonds. This is because cut quality is what really matters and both diamonds are cut to top notch precision and proportions.
